Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book is a detailed biography of Joel Alonzo Chandler, a Civil War veteran who served in the 177th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. The author has compiled an insightful portrait of Chandler's life, using his personal writings, including a diary, to provide a glimpse into the personal experiences and beliefs of a soldier during the American Civil War. The author traces Chandler's life from his childhood in New Hampshire to his adult life in Ohio, exploring the themes of family, duty, sacrifice, and the search for meaning in a rapidly changing world. Through Chandler's story, the author sheds light on the broader social and cultural context of the era, offering a nuanced understanding of the motivations and experiences of those who fought in the Civil War. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Añadir al carritoHardback. Condición: Good to Very Good. First Edition. 1919. First edition. 68pp., frontispiece portrait and 5 of 7 other listed black and white illustrations (2 missing). Kenneth Campbell Macdonald (1897-1916) was born at Greenock, enlisted in October 1915 and served on the front lines in the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders. He was part of the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders from June 3rd 1916, and killed in action at Beaumont Hamel, part of the Battle of the Somme, on November 13th 1916. He also had a talent for poetry and was published under the pen name 'Ard Var'. This collection of his poems also contains a sketch of his life and extracts from his letters. The book is bound in the original brown cloth covered boards with white titling on the front board. The case of the book is in good to very good condition with shelf wear and light soiling on the boards. The corners and spine ends are bumped and the spine is slightly cocked. There is a split of about 3/8" in the cloth at the top of the front spine edge. The contents are tight and clean apart from a few scattered small stains and marks from finger smudges, etc., and some more noticeable staining on pages 14 and 15. There is light to moderate foxing throughout and the book is missing 2 of the listed illustrations. The illustration facing page 11 has probably been loose in the past and tipped-in by a previous owner and has a little soiling on the fore and bottom edges and some creasing on the bottom edge. The endpapers are foxed with some soiling and the top corner of the rear free endpaper has been torn away. There is no inscription.

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book, written by the author in 1822, is a collection of political poems that respond to the contemporary events of the time. The poems are written in various styles, from sonnets to satires, and cover a range of topics, including the Holy Alliance, the treatment of Napoleon, and the state of France under the Bourbon Restoration. The author's main themes are the struggle for freedom and justice, and the dangers of tyranny and oppression. The poems are infused with a strong sense of patriotism and a deep concern for the future of Europe. They offer a valuable insight into the political and social climate of the early 19th century and remain relevant today as a reminder of the importance of fighting for our freedoms. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
