Considered the greatest of Cassirer's works and "outstanding contribution to epistemology and to the human power of abstraction. It is rather as if 'The Golden Bough' had been written in philosophical rather than in historical terms". Volume 4 is a much newer printing (1996) and was compiled from his manuscript and is in fine condition. Volumes 1-3 are older printings and in good condition. Deep creases present along hinges. Spines are creased but lettering remains clear. Text blocks are canted with toned edges. Bindings are secure. Volumes 1 and 2 have pencil notations present. Volume 3 has a crack in the gutter but remains intact and unmarked. Remains a good and legible set.
