The papercut shows a broad cross-section of people (workers, peasants, soldiers and children) all gathered together to celebrate, many are holding in their upstretched arms a copy of Mao's quotations. A small head and collar portrait of Mao is featured on the red flags in the upper section. Balloons, banners, flowers, flags and musical instruments are illustrated to add to the festival spirit.
