Mellor was an entomologist and member of the British Falconer's Club. His book covers all relevant aspects of falconry, including training, feeding, ailments, and parasites. The plate shows a Neo-Hittite bas-relief in the Louvre of a child standing on his mother's knees holding a falcon's leash. Text illustrations show a falcon block, hoods, bells, jesses, and swivels; how to prepare a dead bird to feed hawks; a bow-perch for a goshawk; and instructions for fixing damaged feathers. Also includes a glossary of falconry terms, treatments for common hawk injuries and ailments, a bibliography, and an index. This book bears the signature of a previous owner (illegible), with his handwritten notes on falcon trapping in Valkenswaard, Netherlands, and five black-and-white photographic proofs of that trapping trip.
