Printed in Gothic typescript. This copy of the first edition, published in 1940, has an original German Nazi insignia ink stamp on the title page (please see scans). ***Very good in thin red cloth-covered boards, beautifully decorated with silver titles and bands and a compartment design to the spine, with silver floral decoration and blue titles to the front board. The boards are clean, with just light rubbing and marks commensurate with age and handling. The silver has worn in places on the spine, and there are some small marks on the back board. No bumps or creases to the vulnerable edges of the boards. Corners sharp. No reading lean to the binding. Spine tight. Page block edges clean but paper stock lightly tanned. Internally also very good, with no previous ownership inscriptions, but with the historically interesting contemporaneous Nazi insignia ink bookseller's or library stamp to the title page. Paper stock now brittle and tanned. some splitting to the paper at the gutter of the title page, but this is still holding firm.
