In 1915, Farran Zerbe (18711949) founded the Pacific Coast Numismatic Society in San Francisco. In the same year, he oversaw the official coin medal department of the Panama-Pacific International Exposition. Zerbe aslso served as president of the American Numismatic Association. Gold metallic ink illustrates the wrappers and ten American gold coins and tokens. Examples include the $50 Gold "California Slug" and the Brasher Doubloon, as well as privately issued or Territorial gold coins issued in Colorado and Utah. Other historic currency are illustrated by line drawings. The text describes the design, mintage, rarity, and current market value of various American gold and silver coins.
