Añadir al carritoTwo works in one volume, 8vo, pp. [viii], vi, [ii], 64, 63-126, [2], [139]-158, [2], 159-190; viii, 8, [8], 75, [1]; iii, [i], 19, [1] advertisement; in contemporary panelled calf, spine gilt, red morocco label (joints cracked, upper cover coming loose). 'Second edition', but in fact a re-issue of the sheets of Curll's second edition of 1719, with the insertion of Pack's Life of T. P. Atticus, which had also been published separately by Curll the same year. The number of copies provided by Curll to the bookseller John Hooke must have been small, as they are now very rare; there is no listing at all for this issue in the ESTC, but Foxon notes copies at the Clark Library and Virginia. Foxon p. 548 (with Foxon P9).

Añadir al carritoTwo works in one volume, 8vo, pp. [viii], vi, [ii], 64, 63-126, [2], [139]-158, [2], 159-190; iii, [i], 19, [1] advertisement; a nice copy in contemporary speckled calf, spine with plain gilt lines, a bit rubbed but in attractive original condition. Second edition, considerably enlarged: first published earlier the same year. The text of the first edition has been entirely reset, with new ornaments throughout; the order of the poems has been slightly altered, and a number of substantial notes added. A commendatory poem, signed with initials only in the first edition, is now been identified as by George Sewell. The new material at the end includes a section of translations from Catullus, Tibullus, and Ovid, prefaced by a brief 'Essay upon the Roman Elegiac Poets', along with two occasional poems, and a biographical sketch of William Wycherley. Religion and Philosophy was no doubt issued separately, as a collection of six short poems: the binding up of these sheets with a related title is typical of Curll. Foxon p. 548 (with Foxon P9). Provenance: early signature 'Ar. Tremayne' on front pastedown.

Dedicated to Elizabeth Carter, the Miscellanies include poems, contributions to the Adventurer (The Story of Fidelia, a short story in itself), and three other essays.

Añadir al carrito8vo, pp. [xiv], 414; somewhat browned in places, but a solid copy, on contemporary panelled calf, somewhat rubbed, spine worn. Second edition: a paginary reprint of the first edition on 1711. Curiously, as Teerink points out, the fidelity to the original edition extends to copying the error at the head of p. 65, by which the last two lines of p. 64 are repeated. Teerink-Scouten 2. Provenance. Earl of Hopetoun, with Hopetoun House bookplate.

Añadir al carrito8vo, pp. [xiv], 414; some light browning, else a good copy, rebound in full panelled calf in period style, red morocco label. Second edition: a paginary reprint of the first, of the same year, but without the gap in pagination at p. 91. The earlier printing was followed so closely that one curious error has been preserved, in which the last two lines of p. 64 (E8v) have been repeated at the top of the following page (F1r). Teerink 2. Provenance. Early inscription on a preserved flyleaf reading: 'a Monsieur Buller Ecuyer du Roy a Versailles'. It is possible that this should read 'Butler' (although there is definitely no cross to the first 'l'), in which case it might refer to an expatriate Irish Jacobite at Versailles, by the name of Butler which would be rather more likely than a Frenchman being interested in Anglo-Irish literature in the early 18th century. It could conceivably refer to Pierce Butler (1652-1740), Viscount Galmoye and Jacobite Earl of Newcastle, who went into exile in the early 1690s and was in both French and Spanish service, or to one of his family.
