Food and water are essential to the operations of any military force and this engineering text published by the Britsh War Office in its Military Engineering series, just before WWII, explains and illustrates water supply systems developed in the field from many years of experience at home and in dozens of different environments. The text section covers many related aspects of water supply, ranging from reconnaissance to locate sources, sinking and boring wells, various pumping, extraction and technical processes, purification, distribution, storage and transport, field supplies during mobile or protracted operations and camp supplies. This secition runs for 16 chapters, occupying 307 pages, then follow 26 tables to page 347, then seven appendices which include three fold-out tables. The final section of the book contains 171 plates made up of sectional drawings, sketches and plans, diagrams, technical illustrations including cut-aways, machinery and equipment ---, this section includes numerous b/w photos and several foldout plans etc. A 22 page index brings the pagination to 421 pages. Ten pages of related advertisments at the front and back. Green hard covers with gilt spine titles are VG with hint surface wear spine hinges and spine extremities. former owner name top corner first advert page, text block otherwise excellent.
