Cloth is torn along lower joint, and shows wear at spine ends. Gilt stamped lettering on top cover remains bright. Blank front free end page shows a few tears on edges. Contents show light scattered edge wear and some misfold and creases to folding maps. Volume remains clean and otherwise intact.

With a total of 45, various size maps and plans, a number of these are full-size folding maps, others are smaller, fold-out maps or plans, and some are small, single sheet detail items. Blindstamped black cloth with titling gilt on the spine and front cover. The outer covers show some spotting, light wear; brown spotting (foxing) to the endpapers, flyleaves, prelims., some age related tanning to the maps, with occasional light damp or other spotting. The map & plans relating to Cleveland, Ohio Harbor show wear, tanning, some perforations along one of the folded edges of the map; three inch tear to the map of the Mouth of Gallien River, Michigan; creasing, tanning to the map of Grand River, Ohio Harbor. Most maps are in very good condition. Ink inscription by the early owner on the free front endpaper: J L Ireland July 1855 From Hon'l H[amilton] Fish U. S. Senator.". With the bookplate of Cleveland, Ohio based book collector, William G. Mather (1857-1951), on the front paste-down endpaper. Some of the areas mentioned: Arkansas, Florida, Michigan, Iowa, California, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Kansas, Nebraska, Ohio, Washington, D.C., New York; Isthmus of Darien (in site of proposed inter-oceanic navigation) many maps/plans concern river and harbors.
