Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book contains translated and transcribed primary source documents that shed light on the First Anglo-Dutch War, fought between England and the Dutch Republic from 1652 to 1654. The documents provide a rich and detailed account of the war's causes, major events, and aftermath. They include letters, reports, orders, and other official communications from both sides, offering a unique insight into the strategies, tactics, and experiences of those involved. Notably, the documents highlight the growing rivalry between England and the Dutch Republic, their competing commercial interests, and the significance of naval power in the 17th century. They also provide valuable insights into the development of naval warfare during this period, with the English gradually transitioning to line-of-battle tactics and the use of professional sailors, while the Dutch retained a more traditional approach. This book is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the First Anglo-Dutch War, naval history, or the broader context of Anglo-Dutch relations in the 17th century. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. …

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a fascinating glimpse into a pivotal period in Anglo-Dutch relations, the First Dutch War of 1652-1654. The author meticulously examines the events leading to the Battle of Dungeness in December 1652, a conflict that saw Dutch Admiral Maarten Tromp decisively defeat English Admiral Robert Blake. The narrative delves into the political and logistical intricacies of the war, including the Dutch reliance on the Baltic trade and the impact of the Danish king's blockade of English merchant ships in the Sound. The author analyzes Tromp's preparations for the voyage to the Isle of RÃÂ , highlighting the challenges he faced in securing crews and maintaining the readiness of his fleet. Through the lens of the Battle of Dungeness, the book explores the complexities of maritime warfare, including the role of strategy, the importance of ship design and speed, and the impact of human factors like morale and leadership. The author's extensive research illuminates the crucial role that naval power played in shaping the political landscape of seventeenth-century Europe. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
