No. 147 of 300 copies. "An Invocation" was a poem read as part of the Fourth of July program in San Francisco, July 4, 1888. Laid in is the eight-page prospectus with an order card, its mailing envelope, and Book Club of California (BCC) mailing label addressed to John W. Hancock of Roanoke, Virginia. With the bookplate of John W. Hancock (1870-1960), whose son founded the Roanoke Electric Steel Corp. Also laid in is a TLS on BCC letterhead from Oscar Lewis, club secretary, soliciting Hancock's interest in BCC membership. Good copy; contents fine, cover edges a bit rubbed in areas (mostly at the upper hinge), upper corner bumped; pp. 2-3 of prospectus show offsetting from the order card mailing envelope.
