Broadside with map, 17.5 x 53 cm. Stamp of "Henry H. Hannan Land Agent Swan Creek, Ohio" in lower margin. A land promotion broadside advertising transportation via the St. Louis, Iron Mountain & Southern Railway to the company's land grant and elsewhere. Promising the "shortest and quickest route" to points in Missouri, Arkansas and Texas, this broadside publishes the "liberal rates and allowance of baggage for Seekers of land in Arkansas and Eastern Missouri." Appearing in the center within a star-studded circular border is a map of the railway above which hovers a winged train wheel with a setting sun in the background, accompanied by the phrase "For the Happy Bound Lands." Text on the wings reads "rapid transit" and "easy transit." The map shows the railway extending as far as Auston, Dallas, and Sherman, Texas. Advertised here are both one-way and round trip tickets for land explorers, with rates from various cities provided in two tables. Destinations named include Ironton (U. S. Land Office), Dexter, Mo., Poplar Bluff, Mo., Walnut Ridge, Ark., Judsonia, Ark., and Little Rock. Text at the bottom explains that the St. Louis, Iron Mountain & Southern Railway currently has a large grant of lands from the U.S. Government, "embracing all varieties of soil and timber adapted to Farming, Fruit Growing and Grazing purposes." The railroad is described as passing through the middle of the grant, from end to end, with six navigable streams traversing the grant. The grant, it is noted, "was made more than twenty years ago, and the lands have been withheld from market until the completion of the railroad. In the meantime, adjoining alternative sections have been taken up and the country settled. Immigrants can locate on railroad land in well improved neighborhoods, having Roads, Mills, Churches and Schools, and peopled by honest and industrious citizens, who will give a cordial welcome to all good people coming among them. Peace, good order and good feeling prevail throughout the State." The names and addresses of three land agents appear at the bottom. WorldCat records 5 copies. CONDITION: Bit of chipping at margins, old horizontal fold, small dampstain in left margin.
