This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This research work investigates a feasibility study on the impact of artificial recharge from a planned wastewater treatment plant on the groundwater quantity and quality of the coastal aquifer in the Gaza Strip, Palestine. During September 2001 to August 2002, an extensive program of hydrogeological investigation and laboratory analysis of soil samples were undertaken to achieve the most reliable characterization of the subsoil and eventually to assist in the design and implementation of a pilot artificial recharge system for treated wastewater to groundwater. Regional groundwater flow simulations are made using the three-dimensional numerical model MODFLOW. The groundwater mounding has been simulated with a constant recharge of 60000 m3/d, and an infiltration rate of 0.75 m/d, while all other hydrogeological conditions are assumed as present conditions. The simulation shows that the groundwater mound beneath the center of the recharge basin can be expected to rise to about 15 m above the present water table, and after about 2 years will be a slight increment in the groundwater mound. 220 pp. Englisch.

Añadir al carritoTaschenbuch. Condición: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - Management of complex groundwater systems has been difficult to be properly performed due to the limited availability of hydrogeological data. Numerical models have become effective and powerful management tools for simulating groundwater flow to improve development strategies. However, the lack of basic data often limits the implementation of these models introducing a problem for model calibration and validation. This book therefore provides a newly developed model named as Modified Grey Model (MGM) to overcome these difficulties of data limitation and uncertainty of hydrogeological conditions. As a case study of complex groundwater system, groundwater flow in Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System (NSAS) under Kharga Oasis was analyzed. To check the performance of the MGM model, supplemental comparison between MGM and other models was done for spatial variation of groundwater table and sensitivity analysis. This book should be useful mainly for engineers and geologists. Moreover, it can play an important role with the decision makers to develop a new management and monitoring strategy not only for groundwater but also for other problems have the fingerprint of uncertainty.

Condición: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - Globally, salinity intrusion is a frequent and ubiquitous problem in any developed coastal aquifer system, which is also experienced by the regional aquifer in southwestern Bangladesh. Immediate attention must be paid to quantify the extent of this problem for taking the appropriate countermeasures. Nowadays, numerical modeling technique plays an important role in this regard since traditional analytical approaches are insufficient to replicate the physical system adequately. This book demonstrates a new system of numerical modeling for an integrated river-aquifer system by taking the regional aquifer in southwestern Bangladesh as a case study area. A conceptual model of the existing integrated river-aquifer system is formulated, which is followed by the development of a 3D numerical model for simulating groundwater flow and salinity transport. Groundwater flow characteristics and dynamic interaction can be satisfactorily simulated and extent of salinity intrusion has been quantified using the developed model. This book will be helpful as a reference to the undergraduate and postgraduate students, hydrological researchers, hydrogeologists, consultants, and environmental agencies.

Añadir al carritoTaschenbuch. Condición: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - This work was an attempt to develop a three-dimensional groundwater flow model for the Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System that is based on GIS-Database integration. This approach was proposed to 1) define and calibrate the regional boundary conditions of the aquifer, 2) to simulate the groundwater management options for the different stressed areas within the aquifer, and 3) to predict the environmental impact of the present and future groundwater extraction schemes on the different exploitation sites. The calibration was carried out under the transient conditions for the period 1960-2005 based on the availability and temporal distribution of the data. The calibrated regional model was used afterward for the development and integration of local-scale models for the Dakhla oasis, Lake Nasser, and the Tushka area, to consider local detailed data inputs and to give a deeper view on the local hydrodynamic changes. Based on the actual and full capacity planned extraction rates of the NSAS, five extraction scenarios were suggested in an attempt to investigate the most feasible groundwater management option in terms of the economic lifting depth in a prediction simulation until 2100.
