    Wraps. 110 p. Thomas Cary Johnson, D.D. LL.D. was a notable Southern academic, educators, and religious philosopher. For a significant portion of his professional career he had ties to the Union Theological Seminary at Richmond. At various times he served as chair of several academic departments as well as being a driving force in the acquisitions programs of its library. Doctor Johnson was born in Monroe Co. Va., July 19, 1859. Doctor Johnson attended Hampden-Sidney College graduating inn 1882. He earned, also from Hampden-Sidney the Dr. of divinity degree in 1891 and the Doctor of Laws degree in 1899. Healso earned diplomas for Latin, Greek and Mathematics at the University of Virginia, where he was a graduate student in 1883-1884. In 1887 he graduated from the Union Theological Seminary of Virginia and spent the following year as a special student in Yale University. In 1890 he was ordained in the Presbyterian ministry. The chapters which make up this volume were initially prepared as talks to the congregation of the Ginter Park Presbyterian Church and for the COnference of Christian Workers of the Synod of Mississippi, of July, 1923. This volume was published at the request of the Committee of Arrangements of that Conference. The author acknowledged the contributions of John Owen, William G. T. Shedd, and Robert L. Dabney. Good. Ex-library. Cover has some wear and chips. Few library markings--several ink numbers and author's name on verso (not believed to be author's signature). Rear pocket removed.
