This the Volume XV issue of Fores's Sporting Notes & Sketches, a quarterly magazine. This magazine was published by the Fores family publishing firm founded by Samuel William Fores (1761-1838), an English publisher and printseller. Samuel became well-known for his Piccadilly print shop. His sons, George Thomas Fores (1806-1858) and Arthur Blucher Fores (1814-1883), continued the family business and focused on publishing sporting prints. The Foreses' company continued to operate for many decades thereafter. This issue includes many brief sketches and anecdotes relating to the world of hunting, sporting, and other forms of outdoor recreation. Also included is one sketch about California titled, "Californiana." Fores's Sporting Notes & Sketches: A Quarterly Magazine (Volume I, 1884-1885) was the first annual bound volume of a quarterly magazine published by Messrs. Fores of London from 1884 to 1912. The publication featured articles on British and foreign sports, with a particular focus on horse racing, hunting, and fishing.
