Hardback. Condición: Good. Readers are invited on a quiet walk along the shoreline with the narrator, where they visit and pay homage to an old friend, Mother Beach. Several pieces of colorful, weather-worn glass are picked up along the way and carefully inspected within the reflective verse: a glint of gold catches my eye as I continue down her strand, announcing a chunk of amber has arrived on new, wet sand.it has a curvy, floral pattern once delicate and clearperhaps it's from a candy dish or vase from yesteryear. As countless individuals walk beaches daily searching for these colorful nuggets, Mother Beach has a kindly way of embroidering meaning into this everyday activity cherished by so many. Free-hand sketches and watercolor washes provide a lovely backdrop for the author's personal journey of discovery and wonder. Young listeners will enjoy the easy rhythm of the verse as they search the pages for hidden treasures. Back matter includes fun facts about the color and origins of beach and sea glass. Beneath the matte-laminated, illustrated jacket is a hardcover book of textured, speckled oatmeal paper debossed with the glistening face of mother beach, beckoning you to join her. --Patty Merski. But everything changes when Hannah receives the startling news that her mother stole her away from her biological father and the Amish community at a young age. Paperback. Condición: Very Good. Taylor Kane was a daddy's girl from the moment she was born, smiling and cooing whenever her father was around and refusing to sleep until he held her in his arms. But shortly after she turned three years old, the unthinkable happened. Her father was diagnosed with a rare, genetic disease for which there was no cure. It wasn't long before he began to experience a number of bizarre and frightening symptoms, and young Taylor watched helplessly as the disease ravaged his body and mind, transforming him into a shell of the father she once knew: a man unable to walk, talk, swallow or understand what was going on around him. A man who no longer recognized her.Fast forward five years. Her beloved father now gone, nine-year-old Taylor is dealt another devastating blow when she learns that she is a genetic carrier of the disease that took her father's life. Not only will her future children have a fifty percent chance of inheriting the disease, she, too, faces the risk of developing symptoms of her own in the future. In Rare Like Us, Taylor, now a twenty-one-year-old college student, shares the invaluable lessons she learned growing up in a family plagued by a genetic disease so rare that most doctors have never seen it, much less heard of it. She recounts with raw honesty how she managed to conquer her childhood demons and come to terms with her grief and loss; how she transformed her pain into passion and purpose; and how she continues to strive to honor her father's legacy by living her life in a way that would make him proud. This compelling memoir of a young woman's resilience and determination will captivate and inspire not only those who have experienced the isolation and despair that comes with having a rare disease, but anyone who has struggled to find the silver lining in heartbreak or tragedy, or who is searching for hope in the face of an uncertain future.…

Paperback. Condición: Very Good. Abortion continues to be a hot topic in politics, women's rights, and medical practice. But for the eight to ten million American Christian women who have had one, abortion is a spiritual issue as well, raising questions of life and death, heaven and hell, grief and loss. Writing from her own experience, Kim Ketola sheds light on one of the darkest and most neglected personal issues of our time: the widespread need for healing and spiritual recovery after abortion. After abortion brought the worst trouble into my life I had ever known, writes Ketola, I just couldn't see my way free to believe in God's love. With a compassionate heart, Ketola offers ten true stories of healing promise from the Bible to help women answer the most common spiritual torments they face: Is abortion a sin? Does God hate me? Where can I turn in my shame and distress? How could I ever tell anyone the truth? And more. Inspired by Romans 6:4--just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life--this is a definitive resource to help women see themselves and God anew and--finally--to find spiritual healing.…

Hardback. Condición: Good. Frequently, advanced speakers of a second language use the foreign grammar perfectly - often knowing the rules better than native speakers. And yet, by listening to their talking, native speakers know immediately that they are communicating with foreigners. The problem lies in the area of prosody. In classroom situations students might learn how to role an 'r' or form a proper 'th', but not how to produce entire intonation phrases. However, only with intonation is the full meaning, that a speaker wants to communicate, understood. But why is intonation assumed to be of special difficulty to L2 learners? Why are certain features more difficult to learn than others? This investigation sheds some light on the direction of acquisition of intonation by L2 learners (here: L2 Spanish by L1 speakers of German) and simultaneously makes predictions about the markedness of certain phenomena in the languages under consideration. These findings may help language teachers and learners as well-directed teaching materials can be derived and major problems in the acquisition process can be resolved more easily.…
