Signed R.Smith, dated 2/3/49. 18 x 13cm. Original pencil cartoons on the subject of the police, and on the hastily enlarged band of 'Specials' sworn in to deal with the Chartists and other radical protesters, c.1848-49, each with ink caption. They convey well the low esteem in which the force was held. Benezit lists two possible candidates for 'R.
