Christopher Clavius (1537?1612), a German Jesuit and professor of mathematics at the Collegio Romano, was among the leading mathematicians and astronomers of his time. His study and original commentary on the work of Euclid, first printed in 1574, was one of the most influential achievements of Renaissance mathematics, with numerous reprints in the following decades.
