Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: Very Good. The English are now in need of a new sense of home and belonging, and a re-assessment of who they are. This is a history of who they were, with present needs in mind. It begins by considering how the English state created an English nation which from very early days refused to see itself simply as the state's creature. There was more to being English than paying taxes and obeying a king. It considers also how that nation survived shattering revolutions in industry, urban living and global conflict while at the same time retaining a softer, more humane vision of themselves and their land. There was more to living in England than work and wages, there was more to running an empire than expoliting it. From this rich store of history and possibility, the book connects how the meaning of England has changed and changed again in the past, with how it is changing now in the future. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Añadir al carrito1st Printing (Wing I-1032). 24 pp. 7-1/8" x 5-1/2" Limerick, in western Ireland was the scene of two sieges during the Irish Confederate Wars. The second and largest of these took place during Cromwell's conquest of Ireland, 1650â"51. Limerick was one of the last fortified cities held by an alliance of Irish Irish Confederates and Royalists against the forces of the English Parliament. Its garrison, led by Hugh Dubh O'Neill, surrendered to Henry Ireton after a protracted and bitter siege. Over 2,000 soldiers of Cromwell's New Model Army were killed at Limerick, and Henry Ireton, Cromwell's son-in-law, died of the plague. OCLC records 11 institutional holdings, of which just 3 are in the US. Paper quite age-toned & shows signs of wear from the last 3-1/2 centuries. An About VG survivor. Bound in modern marbled paper wrappers. Now housed in an archival mylar sleeve.

Añadir al carrito(ENGLISH HISTORY). THE HISTORY OF ENGLAND. (From the Earliest Times Yhrough 1901). A mixed set of various authors, running from 1905-1924. London: Longmans, Green & Co. In twelve volumes. 8vo., brick and marroon cloth, lettered in gilt. Bookplates, occasional ink ownership. Very good overall, with a few volumes affected by external dampstaining (page edges occasionally affected, but reading surface are clean); some corners bumped, hinges tender or starting, a few boards lightly bowed, cloth bubbled at one volume; all volumes are shaken and most bear some mild external soil; top-edges are dust-soiled. Volumes I, II and XII are just good; the others are about very good to very good. A few maps bear slight edgewear, but the text is sound and serviceable overall.
