The box has an oblong shape, with its greatest length and width 5 and 4 cm respectively, and it is about 2.5 cm in height at its tallest -- its lid has a convexity to it. A brass rim and hinge lines the lid opening, bottom and top pieces. Particularly nice is the cartouche above the map proper. We can't speak to the rarity of the piece -- we couldn't find the box in our quickie Google search, although we did find numerous other enamel trinket boxes sold by Bluck's from around the same time. Bluck's was a Bermuda jewelry, china and antique store that went back to 1844; it went out of business in 2005. The map decoration would certainly seem a natural souvenir for a Bermuda vacationer. Given that it was hand-painted, though, we also would doubt that a profusion of these boxes were made. Our dating is circa 1990, based on the date of other trinket boxes in the collection from which this came. Obviously the early aughts provide a latest possible date.
