Condición: Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: No Dust Jacket As Issued. First Printing; June 1970, thus. The bindings are tight with a lean. Text clean, age-toning with a used book-store stamp inside. First published in 1966 in If: Worlds of Science Fiction magazine. The story blends humor and speculative concepts, focusing on th…e theme of human manipulation of nature and the unpredictable consequences that result. The story follows a group of scientists who genetically engineer a worm with enhanced extrasensory perception (ESP) abilities. Their goal is to use the worm's ESP to detect underground minerals and oil, revolutionizing the resource industry. The worm, however, turns out to be far more intelligent and powerful than they anticipated. As its mental abilities grow, the worm begins to communicate telepathically and influence the humans around it. The central theme of "The E.S.P. Worm" revolves around unintended consequences of scientific advancement and the ethical concerns of manipulating nature. The worm, symbolizing nature's unpredictability, becomes a warning against humanity's hubris in thinking it can control or outsmart natural processes. There are also sub-themes of human greed, corporate exploitation, and the potential dangers of intelligence, whether human or non-human. Cover Art by Herbert Norton Rogoff. (ilustrador).
