Paperback. Condición: Good. Feisty Lulu sets out to make some dough in this illustrated chapter book with plenty of appeal (Kirkus Reviews) from children's book legends Judith Viorst and Lane Smith. The stubbornly hilarious Lulu has decided it's time to buckle down and earn some cash. How else can she save up enough money to buy the very special thing that she is ALWAYS and FOREVER going to want? After some failed attempts at lucrative gigs (baking cookies, spying, reading to old people), dog walking seems like a sensible choice. But Brutus, Pookie, and Cordelia are not interested in making the job easy, and the infuriatingly helpful neighborhood goody-goody, Fleischman, has Lulu at the end of her rope. And with three wild dogs at the other end, Lulu's patience is severely tested. Will she ever make a friend--or the money she needs? In this standalone sequel to Lulu and the Brontosaurus, children's book legends Judith Viorst and Lane Smith once again prove that even the loudest, rudest, and most obstinate of girls can win us over.…

Hardback. Condición: Very Good. In a nation where our love of dogs keeps growing and dog ownership has reached an all-time high, confusion about dogs and their behavioral problems is skyrocketing. Many dogs are out of control, untrained, chewing up furniture, taking medication for anxiety, and biting millions of people a year. Now, in this groundbreaking new guide, Jon Katz, a leading authority on the human-canine bond, offers a powerful and practical philosophy for living with a dog, from the moment we decide to get one to the sad day when one dies. Conventional training methods often fail dog owners, but Katz argues that we know our dogs better than anyone else possibly could, and therefore we are well suited to train them. It is imperative, he says, that we think rationally and responsibly about how we choose, train, and live with the dogs we love, and the more we learn about ourselves, the better we can recognize their wonderful animal natures. Misinterpreting dogs is a profound obstacle to understanding them. Katz believes that both people and dogs are unique-a chow differs from a Lab just as a city dweller differs from a farmer-and he describes how such individuality isn't addressed by even the best and most popular training methods. Not every training theory is for everyone, notes Katz, but almost anyone can train a dog and live with him comfortably. Katz on Dogs is filled with no-nonsense advice and answers to such key questions as: - What kind of dog should I have? Is there is a specific breed or kind of dog for my personality, family, or living situation?- What is the best way to train a dog?- Can I trust my vet?- How often (and for how long) can a dog be left alone?- Is it preferable to have only one dog, or are more better?- What are the secrets to successful housebreaking?- What are my dogs thinking, if anything?- How can I walk my dog instead of having her walk me? - Is it ever okay to give away a dog you love?- When is it time to put my dog down? Katz draws from his own experience, his interactions with thousands of dog owners, vets, breeders, dog rescue workers, trainers, and behaviorists, and he has tested his approach with volunteer dog owners around the country. Their helpful and often inspiring stories illustrate how all of us can live well with our dogs. You can do it, Katz contends. You can live a loving and harmonious life with your dog.…

Paperback. Condición: Good. How sad it would have been had Cole disappeared into that dark room in the back of the shelter, alone and frightened, as if he never existed. This is often the fate of dogs afflicted with medical issues. Cole, a senior dog with cancer, was discarded by his owner, much like throwing away an old pair of shoes. In 2015, Michele and Jeff Allen said enough is enough and started Monkey's House a Dog Hospice & Sanctuary. Celebrating the beauty each dog has to offer, they have welcomed over 100 hospice dogs into their home. Thankfully, Cole was rescued by Monkey's House and experienced his final chapter of life filled with dignity and love. This book highlights 37 of the dogs that have called Monkey's House home. Share in their journeys, laugh at their crazy antics, and shed a few tears while witnessing miracles of transformation. Rejoice along with these dogs, knowing they experienced the greatest gift of all, the healing power of love. The Allens and Best Chapter Publishing are donating a portion of the proceeds from Where Dogs Go to LIVE to Monkey's House a Dog Hospice & Sanctuary, a nonprofit organization.…

Paperback. Condición: Good. An inspiring true story about rescuing a puppy-mill dog, fighting for justice and finding joy in an unexpected place. A memoir detailing the horror of Amish puppy-mill auctions and the truth behind the puppies in the pet store windows. Bark Until Heard teaches readers the importance of finding their passion and fighting for their cause. Living quietly in suburbia, writing for an international animal-welfare organization, I suddenly found myself on assignment in a dark Amish barn at a puppy-mill auction, looking into the eyes of a dirty, scared Chinese crested powder puff. In front of me wasn't just one dog needing rescue from a miserable life of constant breeding - there were hundreds. In that horrific moment, face-to-face with animal cruelty, I found complete clarity. With tears streaming down my face, I felt my soul open up. In the days and years that followed, I found my voice and the courage to passionately fight for thousands of silenced dogs force to live a life of neglect. A journey that taught me the importance of being true to a cause and of never giving up. **The author will donate a portion of the proceeds from this book to groups that rescue puppy-mill dogs and organizations that improve the lives of breeding dogs.…

Paperback. Condición: Good. You know your dog can sit, fetch, and roll over, but can he respond to fetch commands in multiple languages? What about rolling dice? Help you play Sudoku? Recognize Mozart? From the author of Test Your Dog's IQ Genius Edition comes a brand-new spin on how to recognize your pet's potential--only this time it's not finding out how good of a pet your dog could be, but instead if he could tackle the world on his own. These exercises might not get your four-legged friend into the college of his choice, but they'll certainly give you another way to bond with your pup. They'll also allow you to score his results. If your dog really is a superstar, he should be able to do more than simply meet his own needs all day long. With Test Your Dog's IQ Genius Edition, it's time to find out if you've been catering to your dog for too long; if your pooch is a mooch when he could be pulling his own weight around the house. This fun, affordable guidebook will release in sync with Test Your Cat's IQ Genius Edition, just as Test Your Dog's IQ and Test Your Cat's IQ released in sync in 2013. The content is brand-new and complemented by four-color illustrations throughout.…
