About the book >.>.> This exhibition, consisting of one hundred lithographs by Picasso, has been chosen from some one hundred and fifty prints originally in the Picasso Estate. All of them were conceived by Picasso and printed in the studio of Fernand Mourlot in Paris between 6 November 1945 and 30 May 1949. Picasso had made surprisingly few lithographs before 1945, some twenty-five to thirty, the last of which was printed in 1930. This fifteen year interval was brought to an end by Picasso's introduction to Mourlot after the second world war, and the meeting led to the artist's most prolific period of activity in the medium. Between the end of 1945 and the spring of 1949. Picasso worked on no less than one hundred and eighty-five stones and zine plates, and although the activity slowed somewhat from 1950 onwards, the amount of subjects on which he worked in collaboration with Mourlot rose to over four hundred by the end of the 1960s. Picasso was, of course, one of the most prolific printmakers of the twentieth century.
