Traditional performance measurementsystems (PMS), mainly based on financial figures, donot meet the requirements of high performancecompanies anymore. For the development ofmodern PMS it is essential to define key performanceindicators (KPI). They are agreed metricsfrom various domains reflecting the organization'sstrategy and are key to operationalsuccess. The objective of this diploma thesis is totheoretically develop and empirically applya model that can be used to define KPI. Based on theresearch of management informationneeds, the model combines two methods: a strategic-driven top-down approach as well as anexperienced-driven bottom-up approach. This leads toa well-balanced selection of KPI and asa second objective, detects potentials in a moreefficient way of reporting KPI.
