Añadir al carritoColour pictorial map, 51 x 67 cms, two small inset maps of Scandinavia and the Baltic and South Greece and the Dodecanese, on the verso a black and white world map showing the Pacific Theatre marking keys events of the war and in European world history, folding into the original pictorial pocket (a little toned and marked) 25.8 x 17.7 cms, small fold split, but in very good condition. A scarce map in the "Dated Events" series published by C.C. Petersen in Canada, and distributed throughout North America commemorating D-Day. The colour map by Stanley Turner encompasses the area from England as far south as the French border with Spain and as far east as the USSR and Turkey. "With this invasion map you will be able to follow the progress of the Allied troops on their way to smash Germany.". The text at lower left goes on to elaborate on the features shown on the map, from elevation ("major battles are seldom fought on the tops of mountains") to pictographs of bombs falling. The black and white map on the verso shows the Far Eastern theatre of war, centring on the Pacific Ocean with the Asian landmass including India and the USSR at upper left, Australia at lower left and North America and the coast of South America at right of the map. Naval bases are shown and significant events in the war are noted in text boxes. A handsome production of a scarce map rarely seen with the original pictorial pocket.

Añadir al carritoCondición: Good. "The Dated Events War Map Series was first introduced in 1942 as a collaboration between artist Stanley Turner and the C.C. Petersen Advertising Firm of Toronto. Audiences on the homefront were eager for information about the major battles, strategic locations, and important leaders of World War II - especially as their loved ones began deployment overseas in large numbers. The brightly colored images were regularly re-issued with new information on the global conflict, with nearly 30 different serialized editions and numerous variants. This is a nice example of an unnumbered edition, likely published in mid-1944 shortly after the Allied invasion of Normandy. One side is boldly colored and details the military bases, critical infrastructure, and topography of "Fortress Europe." Text boxes in the negative space provide dates for specific events, while bright red and pink shades denote the advance into Axis territory (though it is lagging behind, since Rome is still shown in Italian hands). Inset maps of southern Greece and Scandinavia are also provided and show similar information. The verso of the sheet is designed in a similar style but is focused on the Pacific Theater and is entirely in black and white. It lists a litany of Japanese offenses in the region and notes a few instances where the Allies had been able to strike back, though it makes no reference to either the Battle of the Philippine Sea or the end of the Burma campaign, helping to date the map. Land ownership is denoted with flags, since no color has been applied. There are also a number of interesting historical references included, perhaps to fill empty space or soften the blow of so many regional defeats. Sheet Width (in) 26.4 Sheet Height (in) 20.1 Condition Description Several large irregular tears have been repaired on the verso, some with old cellophane tape that has discolored somewhat. Minor image loss in the lower center and left side as a result. Numerous pinholes in each corner. Fair condition overall.
