The concise D.N.B., containing epitomes of all the lives in the main work and its twentieth-century supplements, was originally published in 1920, in one volume. New editions, incorporating subsequent twentieth-century decades, were issued in 1930 and 1939. In 1952, to relieve the public from the need to buy a new copy of the whole work each time a new decade was incorporated, the book was split into two volumes. The first containing epitomes of lives in the main work down to 1900, has been available since then. This second volume contains epitomes of lives in all the twentieth-century supplements from 1901-1950. This work is separated into two volumes, with the first being an 'epitome' or summary of the the main 'Dictionary of National Biography' and it supplement from 'the beginnings to 1900', whilst volume II is a summary of the 'Twentieth Century DNB' from 1901 to 1950. Both volumes are in the uniform publisher's original cloth binding. In the publisher's original cloth binding with gilt detail to spine. Externally, slight rubbing to joints, volume I. Slight spotting to front board volume I. Minor shelfwear to extremities. Slight fading to spine, volume I. Internally firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean throughout.
