See provenance. See resume for full list of papers. The bookplate to the front paste down belongs to Right Honourable Lord Colchester and is dated 1887. Paper 2 contains the signature of Charles Abbot, being the 1st Baron Colchester. The paper also has the words "from the author" to the title page that could refer to Charles Abbot responding to the initial paper as Speaker of the Hose of Commons. Language: English. Book Condition: Restoration Only: Detached front and rear boards. DJ Condition: No DJ Pages 56, 36, 58, 68, 198, 60. Size: 8vo 22cm by 13cm. PROVENANCE: BOOKPLATE: Lord Colchester. INSCRIPTION- "From the Author". SIGNATURE- Charles Abbot. Charles Abbot, 1st Baron Colchester (1757-1829) was a British barrister and statesman and served as the Speaker of the House of Commons between 1802 and 1817. Constitution Club; Opened in 1883, the Constitutional Club was a Conservative party-aligned gentlemans club in London. Lord Colchester donated to the clubs library about 3000 volumes from the Kidbrooke Library, which was formed by Charles Abbot, 1st Baron Colchester. The club closed in 1979. P. for Poole 1806. 6) Observations on a Pamphlet which has been privately circulated said to be 'A Concise Statement of the Facts, and the Treatment Experienced by Sir Home Popham, since his return from the Red Sea' to which is added A Copy of the Report made by the Navy Board to the Admiralty on investigating the Account of Expenditure for The Romney and Sensible at Calcutta, in 1801, published by J. Ginger.
