After the major novels of Richardson, Fielding, and Smolett, there were the works of a few lesser contemporaries like Eliza Haywood, Sarah Fielding, and Mary Collyer, translations from foreign novelists such as Cervantes and Prevost, and a mass of narratives whose authors "yielded to popular prejudice and denied their fictional nature, falsely protesting their 'truth' instead." Brief descriptive annotations are attached to most entries.
