Born in Rangoon to missionary parents, his first language was Karen. He earned his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University in 1921 and returned to Burma in 1922, establishing a hospital in Namkham near the China border. During World War II, Seagrave served as a surgeon with the U. S. Army Medical Corps, notably assisting General Joseph Stilwell during the Burma Campaign. His memoir, "Burma Surgeon," details his experiences during this period. Post-war, he continued his medical mission in Burma until his death in 1965.

Two Volume Set; First Editions; both books Very Good in Very Good dust jackets. A handsome set of these two accounts of Dr. Seagrave practicing medicine and surgery in Burma before and during World War II; he famously joined General Stilwell in the retreat to India along the Burma road, performing surgery and treating patients along the journey. These books are uncommon in the first edition and in collectible condition. Both books show general shelf wear with rubbing to the spine ends and edges of both boards and jackets, with "Returns" showing some advanced chipping with a small loss of material to the top edges, a previous book store stamp is present to the front pastedown of both books. Not remaindered, not price-clipped, not ex-library; in a protective Mylar cover and will ship securely wrapped in a sturdy box.
