Knight's Pictorial Bible, issued between 1836 and 1838, was "the first very extensively illustrated Bible", having hundreds of woodcuts. The voluminous editorial notes were by John Kitto, and were published anonymously in the First Edition. . It was quite successful commercially, and thus not surprisingly Knight followed up with the Pictorial Book of Common Prayer. Very Good binding.

The front board is delicately held. From family search: Henry Chatterton Schell was born on 16 November 1827, in England, United Kingdom, his father, Thomas Shell, was 32 and his mother, Sarah Hester Chatterton, was 28. He married Harriet Caroline Black on 19 December 1849, in New York, United States. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 4 daughters. He lived in Phelps, Ontario, New York, United States in 1850 and Seneca, Ontario, New York, United States for about 5 years. He died on 3 December 1894, in Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio, United States, at the age of 67, and was buried in Glenwood Cemetery, Geneva, Ontario, New York, United States.

This Prayer Book includes the Forms of Prayer and Thanksgiving for 5 November, 30 January, 29 May and 25 October (the accession of George III). It has the addition of A Companion to the Altar, a devotional guide to preparation for receiving Holy Communion, intended to be bound into prayer books, which was written by William Vickers, who flourished 1707-11; this undated edition of it may be from around 1795. The edition of the psalms, by Nicholas Brady (1659-1726), Anglican clergyman and poet from Ireland, and the Anglo-Irish poet, Nahum Tate (1652-1715), Poet Laureate in 1692, was first licensed in 1696. This Oxford prayer book was printed at the University's Clarendon Press. The precise edition does not appear in Griffiths, although similar versions are quoted. (Griffiths, 1797, p. 211). The designs and type throughout are those of the English edition published by Royal warrant, and are the work of C.R. Ashbee of the Essex House Press. C.R. Catterson-Smith assisted in the preparation of a few of the blocks which were cut in England by W.H. Hooper and Clemence Housman. The proofs were corrected by the house of M.
