The The Book of Common Prayer and Administration of the Sacraments and Other Rites and Ceremonies of the Church according to the use of the Anglican Church of Canada, published in 1959, was a revision of the 1918 edition ordered by the General Synod of the Anglican Church in 1943. The revisions did nothing to alter the fundamental meaning or intention of the text, but rather were intended to better communicate the faith. This volume is in poor condition. There is a previous owner's name written on the flyleaf, as well as an address sticker. The Primate's Prayer for Anglican Mission is stuck to the front pastedown. The front hinge is slightly cracked, and the covering of the spine has separated at the front edge and along the top. There is also slight paint staining to the front edge of the cover. Internally the book is in excellent condition with no damage to the text itself.…

No date but published sometime around the 1950s. ***Very good in black soft leather covered boards with gilt titles to the spine and front cover. Gilt still bright. The covers are just slightly marked with age and handling. Very light reading crease to the spine. Marbled endpapers. Internally, the book is in near fine condition. No foxing. No splitting. No creasing. With a bookplate on the front pastedown 'Clive Leslie George', otherwise no inscriptions. Pages clean. Spine tight. Printed on ultra-thin paper, as with many bibles and prayer books. ***120mm x 80mm. 739 pages. ***'The Book of Common Prayer is the short title of a number of related prayer books used in the Anglican Communion, as well as by other Christian churches historically related to Anglicanism. The original book, published in 1549 in the reign of Edward VI, was a product of the English Reformation following the break with Rome. The work of 1549 was the first prayer book to include the complete forms of service for daily and Sunday worship in English. It contained Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer, the Litany, and Holy Communion and also the occasional services in full: the orders for Baptism, Confirmation, Marriage, "prayers to be said with the sick", and a funeral service. It also set out in full the "propers" (that is the parts of the service which varied week by week or, at times, daily throughout the Church's Year): the introits, collects, and epistle and gospel readings for the Sunday service of Holy Communion.
