Hardcover. Condición: Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Near Fine. First Book Club Edition. Hardcover. 159 pp. Published by The Children's Book Club, London (1962), by arrangement with Hodder & Stoughton. Copyright 1962 stated to title page verso. Beautifully illustrated with black-and-white drawings and an atmospheric frontispiece by Leslie Stead. The book is an exceptional, Fine copy—bound in light blue cloth that remains wonderfully fresh, clean, and tight all round, with unrubbed black lettering and no previous owner inscriptions or internal markings. Housed in a complete, Near Fine original dust jacket that remains entirely unclipped, displaying the original Hodder & Stoughton 8s 6d retail price on the inner flap. The jacket is bright and free of the usual dust dulling to the rear panel, showing only a very short closed tear to the bottom edge. A beautifully preserved, crisp example of this later-period Air Police mystery. This adventure Biggles Sets a Trap is unique within the series because it is one of the few adventures where Biggles and his team do not fly an aeroplane at all. The plot unfolds as Biggles and Bertie travel to Ringlesby Hall, a rundown stately home in Hampshire. They are visiting Sir Leofric Landaville, a young pilot who believes his family is plagued by a historical, centuries-old "curse" tracing back to the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485. What starts as a seemingly supernatural anomaly quickly turns into an intricate Air Police investigation when Biggles detects a calculated string of modern criminal setups and murders. Armed with nothing but his sharp wits, Biggles meticulously orchestrates a trap to catch the intruder responsible. Leslie Stead (ilustrador).…

Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. 1st Edition. Mild foxing to the closed page edges. The jacket is not price clipped and has only minor rubbing. Number 63 in the series. Biggles is visited by Sir Leofric Landaville who has a surprising tale to tell. For generations his family has suffered from what could be called "the curse of the Landavilles". Intrigued, Biggles and Bertie travel to Ringlesby Hall in Hampshire to hear the story (Algy and Ginger being on leave). On 22nd August 1485 at the Battle of Bosworth Field, Henry VII defeated Richard III. Henry's life was saved at the battle by a squire named Leofric Landaville who was knighted and given Ringlesby Hall with 100 acres of land and a pension of £400 in perpetuity. Ever since then, Landavilles have been dying mysterious and violent deaths and legend has it that such deaths are preceded by the croak of a Raven. Leofric's elder brother Charles has recently died a violent death after being shot, supposedly in an accident. Leofric heard a Raven croak before it happened. Biggles investigates the death and discovers it was murder. Ringlesby Hall has also been entered by an intruder. Biggles is invited to stay and sets a trap to alert him to any further entries by the mysterious intruder. Making enquiries in the locality, Biggles finds out about the De Warine family who owned Ringlesby Hall before the Landavilles. Eventually the trap is sprung and an intruder is discovered. In trying to escape, the intruder is killed in a car crash. The identity of the intruder and the explanation for the "curse" are revealed. The dust cover of the book shows Biggles sitting in a chair in Ringlesby Hall, in front of a suit of armour. Leslie Stead (ilustrador).…
