Unlike the recent paperback reprint,… this original edition has crisp, sharp b/w photos and drawings along with a section of color plates. The paperback reprint apparently was generated by scanning an original copy of the book, and to be polite, looks positively awful. This is the version of the book as the writer and editor meant to be seen and studied.

Dunn (1904-1998) was a major pioneer in the area of visual effec…ts and had a long career working on such classics as King Kong, Citizen Kane, The Thing From Another World, Bringing Up Baby, Cat People, Out of the Past, Mighty Joe Young, Shock Corridor, the original Star Trek series, etc. Oversize pictorial format, 297 pages plus index. A history of visual effects in film from the 1895 Edison production of The Execution of Mary, Queen of Scots, to the more contemporary techniques of such films as Star Wars, Superman, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, etc. Filled with color and black & white photographs as well as drawings and diagrams.
