This copy is fair only, in brown cloth with flacke and gilt titles and illustrations on the front cover and a crest design blind-stamped on the rear cover. The binding has separated at the front hinge, so that the front cover is loose, albeit still attached. Some of the pages are detached, but all are still present. Moderate wear on the covers, but the gilt is still relatively good. The text has typical age darkening. CH25.

With the rise of Industrial Revolution technology, people were able to move around the globe faster than every before - an urban American student learning French in this period was not only engaging in mental stimulation, but actually stood a chance of using their skills to eventually converse with a real French person. ÆSOP'S FABLES, IN FRENCH was published during this period, offering moral anecdotes alongside "those idiomatic forms of speech" that "characterize a language" (Advertisement).
