Agnes Nalani Lumborn on May 21, 1956 to a Chinese father and a mother of Hawaiianancestry, in Honolulu, Hawaii, is a gravure idol star, singer, actressand bikini supermodel popular in Japan in the late 1970s and early1980s. At that time, she was nicknamed 'Lum-chan' in Japan, though nowthat nickname can be confused with that of the fictional character LumInvader from Urusei Yatsura. Agnes Lum was the inspiration for the nameof this character as she was extremely popular and well-known at thetime the manga was first released (1977). In order to avoid confusionwith Agnes Chan, another popular idol at the time, 'Lum-chan' was usedthough many fans called both simply 'Agnes'. Lum has appeared innumerous calendars, on posters, and magazine spreads, and these itemsregularly fetch high prices in the collectors market.VDM Verlag, Dudweiler Landstraße 99, 66123 Saarbrücken 108 pp. Englisch.

Lum Invader is a fictional character and the female protagonist from Rumiko Takahashi's manga and anime series Urusei Yatsura. She is often believed to be the main protagonist of the series due to her iconic status. However, Takahashi has stated that Ataru Moroboshi is the main character. She is named Lamu in Animax's English-language dub of the series, and in the Italian anime dub as well. Her name comes from popular 1980s swimsuit model Agnes Lum, as well as Rumiko Takahashi's nickname of 'Rum' or 'Lum' (from the interchangeable sound of the R's and L's in Japanese). Lum is considered a magical girlfriend, though significantly different from others such as Belldandy of Oh! My Goddess and Ai of Video Girl Ai. While the latter two are openly considered 'ideal' women by the protagonists of their respective series, Ataru rarely indicates publicly that Lum is anything other than the opposite of ideal.
