Añadir al carritoHardback. Condición: Very Good. First UK Edition. 1948. First UK edition. xiii, 200pp. including many chess-board diagrams. Comins Mansfield (1896-1984) was an English chess problem composer. In 1936, he published A Genius of the Two-Mover, which included 100 of the 300-or-so problems that Mansfield had composed over the past 20 years. The present work was originally published in a limited edition in the USA in 1944, and contains new problems, except for a few which are essential to illustrate particular points. The book is bound in the original red paper covered boards with a green cloth spine. There is black titling on the spine and a paper title label and an illustration of a knight chess piece on the front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with some shelf wear and light soiling to the boards and three small white marks near the fore edge of the front board. The top front and bottom rear corners are lightly bumped and there is a little fading on the bottom edge of the front board. The contents are tight and clean with partial browning to the free endpapers and a chess supplier's label near the bottom spine corner of the front fixed endpaper. A name and date has been written near the top corner of the front fixed endpaper.

Añadir al carrito1948. (Hardcover) Very good in good to very good dust jacket. 200pp. Illustrations, glossary, solutions. The dust jacket is chipped and worn around the edges with a large piece missing from the bottom of the spine, ink marks on the back panel, and the endpapers are toned. A prize inscription is taped to the front endpaper. "No greater artist than Comins Mansfield has existed in the treatment of the popular two-move problem, to which he confines his subject. I have often wondered how his subtle and intricate effects could be presented with the grace and economy of material that we find in the poetry, music and painting of the supreme workers in those arts. The author in his delightful book, which is illustrated by 200 diagrams, draws the veil aside, and shows us how he built up some of the most famous problems, step by step from the first simple ideas".
