The 1838 United States House of Representatives Election in New Jersey resulted in both the Democratic and Whig candidates claiming victory and traveling to Washington, D.C. to be seated. While the Whig candidates had their results certified by the governor, after a review, it was determined that two Democratic-heavy towns did not have their vote totals added by Whig county clerks, giving the Democratic candidates the majority and causing them to be seated. A unique piece that documents the conflict at the time.
