Some had said in it intellect and emotion are justly balanced in a triumph of clarity and good writing. Nicoll presents his understanding that time can only be understood by waking from a kind of slumber and entering another dimension of timelessness throught present moments at a higher level of consciousness. To grasp waking up, he says is like waking up from a dream-like state, that man has "fallen asleep in time". Nicoll poignantly notes a story of the poet Alfred Lord Tennyson experiencing a higher state in which he knew "death was a laughable impossibility" while experiencing something beyond "the usual sense of time." It is the outer mind's belief in the 'fact' of ultimate death that continually feeds the uneasiness on which most of our lives rest. A worthwhile book to read and contemplate. Hardbound in fine condition in fine dust jacket.
