This book was one to the 25th Taschen Anniversary titles, with the hardcover boards featuring the stylized Taschen 25. The front blurb of the book focuses on the history of Taschen rather than on Giger. From the back blurb The name HR Gi…ger stands for more than 45 years of Fantastic Art. Giger was born in Chur in Switzerland in 1940 and studied industrial design and interior architecture in Zurick. He first attracted attention in the 1970s with his airbrush landscapes, and since then has been feted as a painter for his surrealist dream landscapes and the creation of his unique bio-mechanoids. In 1980, the artist's world fame was finally sealed when he won an Oscar for the design of the title figure for Ridley Scott's film Alien and its extraterrestrial backdrop. Giger has collaborated on numerous other film projects, for example Species, for which he designed the deadly, half-extraterrestrial beauty Sil and a fantastical nightmarish train. His record covers for Debbie Harry and Emerson, Lake and Palmer were voted into the top 100 by music journalists. Furniture designed by Giger currently adorns the Giger Bar in Gruyeres, where the Giger Museum has been established in recent years, and another Giger Bar in the city of Chur. This book was designed by Giger, himself, and features the broad range of his artistic work. This large format book, 240 pages measuring 297mm X 237mm is in fine condition in a fine dust jacket that is now in a protective mylar wrap. This large volume may require additional postage.
