The focus o…f the book is a canoeists guide for the following rivers (many were the locales for log drives in bygone days) : Montreal, Makobe, Kipawa, Dumoine, Noire, Barron, Coulonge, and Mattawa. Many detailed maps are given by the author - sometimes inch by inch (note on page 75 : `Watch this Bugger !'. Read about : Petites Rapides Devil, Targie, voyageurs, Wendigo, Tight Right, Waltham Station, hydro-power, Grunt Portage, and Fort Coulonge. Author has huge regard for the native peoples of the region - before logs, furs, mines, and electricity. Also wildlife notes. B/W photographs. Cond : Paper wrapper is off-white (matte finish) with black lettering. Front cover b/w graphic shows two canoeists with native and natural spirits in the cliff faces. Minor wear at fore edge.
