Capt Wallace was a master of foxhounds for 58 consecutive seasons and life president of the Masters of Foxhounds Association. He started his hunting career with the Eridge Hunt in Kent and, as a pupil at Eton, hunted the Eton College Beagles. He was master and huntsman for the Heythrop Hunt from 1952 to 1977 before moving to the Exmoor Foxhounds. As a student at Christ Church in Oxford, he hunted with the Christ Church and Farley Hill Beagles and was still a trustee of the pack when he died. He was also a master and huntsman of the Ludlow, Teme Valley and Cotswold Foxhounds as well as the Hawkstone Otter Hounds. A founder member of the British Field Sports Society, he was a breeder of hounds, winning the championship at the Peterborough Royal Foxhound Show 14 times. This masterly biography tells the story with pace, humour and, above all, infectios enthusiasm. The story, using the thread of one man's dedication to hunting, tells us far more about the sport than most history books of general surveys. Ref EE 7.
