Paperback. Condición: Very Good. The extraordinary story of a wartime pilot who persuaded his German captors to escape with him. When Anthony Shaw's plane was shot down over France, he was quickly captured but soon managed a clever and daring escape. Then, incredibly, after his unlucky recapture he talked his guards (who had been told to shoot him) into letting him out - and coming too! The Upside of Trouble is full of such adventures - as the youngest ever King's Messenger, Shaw travelled all over the world. Returning to the Royal Navy, he became an experimental test pilot for planes and helicopters, again encountering thrills and spills - and a bruising court marshall for refusing to risk man and machine. Ending his career with a flourish, he was posted to newly independent Sierra Leone. Written with self-deprecating humour, this book gives a wonderful picture of an enthralling, much-lived life and is of great interest for general readers as well as ex-servicemen.
