Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: VG+. Estado de la sobrecubierta: VG+. Photos, Drawings, Diagrams etc Ilustrador. 1st. Much has been written about the WWII bomber offensive mounted against Germany by the RAF, but much less about the top secret technological developments aimed at reducing the heavy losses sustained by the attacking aircraft at the hands of the German defences. In 1943 100 Group of the RAF was formed to integrate the units operating an electronic combat and intelligaence war against the Luftwaffe and German anti-aircraft defences. Radar, radio and spoofs were among the weapons ranged against the efficient German night fighters and guns. As one side gained a technological advantage this was quickly countered by the other and thus the conflict was finely balanged, almost to the end of hostilities. This battle, confined mainly to the night skies, has been little publicised and this detailed account follows it from both side, with many first hand-accounts as well as tracking the various electronic devices and aircraft used. This a first edition of 1996. 232 pages including three appendices and index, b/w photos throughout, with some drawings, diagrams, tables etc. Blue hard covers with gilt spine titles VG+, internally excellent, no inscriptions. Colour art/pictorial DJ also VG+.

This is the previously untold story of the secret war of radar and electronics conducted by RAF Bomber Command's 100 Group. Night after Night RAF crews went 'spoofing' and radar interception and countermeasures were used to confuse the enemy's intelligence systems thereby reducing the heavy losses by the main bomber force penetrating german air space. Containing many first-hand accounts of partipation these daring raids, 'Confounding the Reich' also explains the various radar detection and jamming techniques employed, together with the meaning of the often mysterious code names used, such as Serrate, Mandrel Jostle and Airborne Cigar. Fully illustrated throughout with many rare photographs, many published here for the first time, of air crews and the equipment, this is a valuable contribution to the history of the Second World War.
