Douglas perished under dubious circumstances in Hawaii, gaining him semi-mythical status as the archetypal backwoodsman. Though this is a good paperback read, William Morwood's "Traveler in a vanished landscape" (1973) provides a more insightful treatment. x, 246 pp., 8 pp. of monochrome photographs.
