Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the use of pipes installed at regular intervals along 10 coastal profiles on beaches in southern New Jersey and southeastern New York to survey beach profiles. Traditionally, beach profiles were surveyed by standard methods involving a surveyor and an assistant. The…pipes, installed perpendicular to the beach with the tops near mean sea level, were used with a simple device to measure the sand level at each pipe. This measurement, referenced to the pipe top, gives the elevation of the sand above mean sea level. The author compares the results of the pipe surveys to those of traditional surveys and finds good agreement on several profiles, but the agreement on others is uncertain. The author also examines the beach profiles, looking at the shape of the profile, changes in sand elevation, and the relation of those changes to wave climate and beach characteristics. This book presents a new, efficient method of surveying beach profiles that can be extended to monitor profile changes more frequently than traditional methods allow.
