This book presents 3 measures referred to the people by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Oregon and proposed by initiative petition, for submission to legal voters of the State at the regular general election to be held November 8, 1910, along with arguments for and against each measure. These arguments were filed to be included with the official election pamphlet distributed to voters in advance of the election, in accordance with Chapter 226, General Laws of Oregon, 1907. Each argument was submitted by an organization or association registered with the Secretary of State and approved to represent specific interests. The three measures are a proposed amendment to the constitution to amend Section 2 of Article II by extending the right of suffrage to taxpayers regardless of sex; an act to provide for the location, construction and government of a branch Insane Asylum to be located in the Eastern portion of Oregon, and appropriating money therefor; and an act to provide for a constitutional convention, for the purpose of making a general revision of the Constitution of the State of Oregon. The arguments submitted show the progression of political thought in the U.S. during the early 20th century, particularly on issues of women's rights (specifically the right to vote), the expansion of government services into the realm of providing healthcare, and the efficacy of the political convention system for revising state constitutions.
