Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book is a discussion of the contemporary state of the Church of England, in response to doctrinal and ritual changes in the wake of the "Oxford Movement" of the 1830s and 1840s. The author, a clergyman of the Church of England, considers the Church's move toward a "High Church" po…sition, and the reaction against these changes by "Evangelical" or "Puritan" churchmen. The author critiques this movement, and Puritanism, describing the changes they have instigated as a significant departure from the true nature of the Church of England and a repudiation of its doctrine and practice. The author describes the "Puritans" as a schismatic body, distinct in feeling and practice from the Church, who are frustrating the attempts of the Church party to restore her ritual. The author argues that this schism in part stems from a denial of the doctrine of baptismal regeneration, and that this denial is the denial of a vital doctrine of the Christian religion. The author warns that if the "Puritans" are not checked, they will have established such an influence as to defy control, and the Church of England will be irrecoverably changed.
