It's designed to be used by temperance organizations as they gather to campaign against alcohol use and promote a sober life. It was extremely common for temperance societies to have musical components to their gatherings; singing served both to inspire and unify members, and many songs were written for their specific use. As such, this book is an important historical relic of a widespread social movement with deep roots in the history of the United States and beyond. Within the book, readers will find a selection of lyrics set to both traditional and original music, as well as poems and other documents that speak to the goals and values of the temperance movement. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
