Beginning with the founding of the order by Hugh de Payens and ending with the persecution of the Templars in France, the book gives a comprehensive account of their centuries-long influence across Europe. The author explores the controversial and complex reasons for their downfall, leading to their near extinction, with only a few pockets of survivors in different countries. The book also investigates the various claims of Templar continuity, from the Order of Christ in Portugal to the supposed survival of the order in Scotland. By examining these claims, the author delves into the fascinating history of secret societies and the enduring legacy of the Knights Templar.
