Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book presents the secular variations of the elements of the orbits of the four inner planets computed for the epoch G. M. T. by Eric Doolittle. Originally published in 1914, the secular variation is the name for the very slow change in orbital parameters of a celestial body over t…ime. The study and computation of secular variations was an important field at the end of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Historically, the problem was first solved by Lagrange and further developed by Gauss. In the late 19th century, Hill introduced several modifications to Gauss's method of computing secular variations. This book applies one of these to the four inner planets - the first time Hill's modified method had been used for this purpose. By applying new techniques to calculate secular variations, the author was able to improve the accuracy of the orbit calculations for the four inner planets in what was then a groundbreaking result. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
